Asia's largest All Girls Beach Festival took place on 11 and 12 January 2019 at Tai Pak Beach, in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong. STH Japan, the sole Official Hospitality providers at Rugby World Cup 2019™, sponsored this year's DB Pirates International All Girls Beach Festival.

The 2019 Festival was the eighth time the event has been run and is widely seen as the leading tournament of its type in Asia. It was a jam-packed weekend of rugby, with matches played one after another on both Saturday and Sunday. Across the four pitches, mini, youth, women's and touch matches were played making the DB Pirates All Girls Beach Festival one of the more unique events on the rugby calendar. The event was held in a newly-designed, never-before-seen-in-Hong Kong inflatable pitch system. The competition was fierce with a circa of 520 players.

The DB Pirates Rugby Club (DBPRFC) is based in Hong Kong and was founded in 2003. The club has 400 active and registered players which include mixed girl's and boy's teams in the U6 to U10 age groups, girls' only teams in the U10-U18 age groups, and boys' only teams in the U11-U18 ages groups. DBPRFC was one of the pioneers of girl's rugby in Hong Kong and the first club to be formed on Lantau Island. It is now one of the most respected Mini and Youth rugby clubs in Hong Kong on and off the field of play.To be involved in this rugby festival was hugely important for STH Japan. Our partners at World Rugby, have implemented a 'World Rugby Impact Beyond 2019 Programme', setting a target to increase the rugby potential within Japan and Asia. Nine months ahead of the tournament, the one million target for encouraging new rugby players was already reached, but continuous support is still being heavily pushed to grow the number even further. Encouraging these tournaments, especially for youth and women's teams is a key topic STH Japan feels passionately to support. Investing in this tournament was a small contribution to help reaching these rugby goals.

The Beach Festival also provides a fantastic platform for players to learn about the 'rugby values':

Integrity: Generates honesty and fair play.

Passion: Rugby generates excitement, emotional attachment and a sense of belonging to the global rugby family, building passionate enthusiasm for the game.

Solidarity: Rugby provides a unifying spirit that leads to life-long friendships, camaraderie, teamwork and loyalty which transcends cultural, geographic, political and religious differences.

Discipline: Discipline is an integral part of the game both on and off the field and is reflected through adherence to the laws, the regulations and rugby's core values.

Respect: Respect for team-mates, opponents, match officials and those involved in the game is paramount.

David MacCallum, Commercial Director at STH Japan added "It was fantastic to see our future rugby stars showcase their skill and ability over the weekend. As passionate rugby fans at STH Japan, we understand the importance of investing and supporting grassroots rugby to develop and grow the game."
